For generations, the Q'ero have lived apart, high in the Peruvian Andes. Following their dreams, they retreated from the world before the first ships left the Old Word. Remaining largely untouched by the Conquest and the ravages of the Church and colonialism, they have survived, perhaps to fulfill a destiny. From their remote villages at 16-17,000 feet, this generous and loving people have preserved their cultural integrity, keeping their unique shamanic wisdom alive.
The Q'ero came down from the majestic slopes of their sacred Apu, Ausangate, during the feast of Collor R'iti in 1949. Once again following their visions, they walked the steep mountain trails for days to present themselves at this gathering of over 70,000 -- seekers, tribes and medicine peoples from all over South America. Many stories relate how the patterns of the colorful, distinctive weavings on their hats and clothing were immediately recognizable. Some describe how the crowds parted to allow them passage. Imagine that beautiful day when the elders of the other tribes welcomed the Q’ero as the last original descendants of the Children of the Sun, the Incas.
According to the legends and oral histories, the Q'ero people lived undiscovered in the Andes for centuries, living in harmony, raising llamas, tending their fields and sheltering the artistry of their weavings in their few, remote villages. Since their return, the Q’ero have generously revealed a pure energetic tradition, sharing their teachings, healing methods and this truly extraordinary world vision.
The traditions and ceremonies of the Q’ero, as practiced for thousands of years, honor and celebrate kausay pacha, the Land of Living Energy. The Q’ero elders speak of this time as one of immense change, Pachakuti, a great turning over. Embedded within these passages, we can discover and unlock our human potential for Peace. Once again, this ancient and lively wisdom is weaving itself into our global tapestry of Awakening … available for us all.
